College courses – developing a vibrant learning community

North West Regional College has just launched its first ever Academy of Excellence, offering all staff the chance to further their skills by enrolling on OCN accredited courses.

The new initiative will provide training and accredited courses which can be accessed by both teaching and support staff to develop and enhance best practice and skills.

Four courses will be made initially available to staff, all of which have their own bespoke design and have been accredited by OCN.

These include:

Certificate in Advanced Teaching Practice (Level 5). – This qualification is designed to give experienced teachers the opportunity to extend and develop their skills. The Academy has developed this qualification to enable lecturers to gain new insights and creative solutions that make a real impact on their practice. The course aims to support, develop and enhance innovative practice in education.

Certificate in Education and Training (Level 4)  This qualification is designed to provide an introduction to education. It is suitable for those who do not hold a teaching qualification.

Diploma in Leading Quality Improvement. (Level 5) This course offers support staff the opportunity to work on an improvement project based on their own area.

All of these courses are fully supported by the College and it is envisaged that further courses will be added in the future.

The Academy aims to promote excellence, innovation and scholarship across the College. It will provide a forum for staff, who teach and support student learning, to share best practice and will encourage an evidence based approach to learning and teaching. The Academy is dedicated to providing access to workshops, qualifications and opportunities for engagement and development.
